Lim Hock did his first degree in physics at the University of Singapore and his Ph.D. in geophysical fluid dynamics at the University of Reading, UK. He began his career as a meteorological officer, and led the effort of computerizing the operations of the Meteorological Service Singapore in the early 1980s. He joined the Department of Physics at the National University of Singapore in 1983. There he established the Laboratory for Image and Signal Processing in 1988, the Centre for Remote Imaging, Sensing and Processing (CRISP) in 1992, and coordinated the development of a Computational Science Programme from 1989 to 1993. He is now serving as the Director of Temasek Laboratories, a newly established research institute in Singapore.
